Denver Play

Denver, CO

In Denver's largest urban park a proposal for a park environment, shaped by topography and natural play elements that recall the wilderness of the Front Range.

Our vision for the Denver City Play Park starts with a simple mantra: make it fun, stimulating and memorable. Our goal is to build a playground that is not only creative but cultivates the cognitive process in children through fun activities. We believe that playgrounds and play spaces can be innovative places that foster opportunities for child-led and customized play for all ages and abilities.

Today, the paradigm is that we should offer methods for how our children should play. Our team’s approach is centered on creating places for our kids to free-form play, being less prescriptive and more open-ended. The malleability of a child’s environment is critical to the learning process and we believe creating and exploring fosters knowledge. City Play Park will serve as a playground for the young and young at heart, fostering new connections among visitors and a meeting point for the community.

Organized around a set of distinct play areas, City Play Park will offer all those who visit an unforgettable park experience with each visit. At the center of the park, rising nearly thirty feet in the air, City Park Hill will be the largest and most dominant feature in the park and will offer an ideal place for kids to roll, tumble and sled. Other key features within the park include: a stone climbing area, a water experience, sculptural slides, a twist and turn maze, play nets, a sandbox, a tunnel structure, and the addition of a new prairie ecosystem.
